BMW: difficulty starting, 4 cylinder cars, demister

Question
I have a 1998 318i S coupe.  Been having problems when starting, especially when its cold. turn the key and it turns over but wont actually start until put accelaration in, and then sometimes its still struggles.  It used to also not hold the power very well once it did start, but have changed the battery and now holds the revs as soon as it starts.

Am wondering if spark plugs, spark cables need to be changed? How often should they be replaced? Or possible starter motor issue?

Am a female driver and feel garages rip me off, so any help would be good. Its due for an mot and service within  the next few days so would rather send it in knowing what the problem with starting is than to be baffled and spend hundreds of pound s and not solve the problem!

Second problem is the fans/air con. Has recently not been demisting the windows properly.  The heaters still work (as they blow warm air).  Passengers side windscreen demists, but not drivers side. Typical! Back windscreen seems to be slower than it used to be too. Also occasionally what look like white smoke coming out of vents when only heaters are on (not air con).  Having air con and windscreen demister on makes no differenec. Altering the temperatre makes no difference.

So it partly works but not how it should? Any ideas?

Thank you in advance

I wish so much that I could help you with the issues, but I have absolutely no experience with the late model 4 cylinder cars.
I will say that if you have not done a tune up in the last couple years, it is probably time.  Tuneups replace parts that are designed to wear out, and it's always a good thing to replace them when old.
The A/C Heat issues I have No idea about, but it sounds like it is electrical.

 I'm sorry I couldn't help you more!
