BMW: polishing the ports, head gasket, homemade tools

i'm having to replace the head gasket on my 1984 533i and am wondering that while the head is off to be milled can i also polish the ports and if so how does one go about doing so, what are the tools and procedure and fcan it be done by a do-it-yourselfer.? also how much time will it take?

This is something I would take to a machine shop to do, I wouldnt advize doing it yourself unless you are experienced in this kind of work. The ports are measured to the fraction of a millimeter so you dont want to risk ruining your car by trying to use "homemade tools"
