Cadillac: LH REAR WINDOW MOTOR (97 STS), e mail address, alligator clip

Question
QUESTION: My drivers side rear door window motor will go down but not go up. I have power to both wires in conjunction with the switch.  I have tried 3 new window motors purchased from the auto parts store, and the same problems continues. I took the door panel off the passenger side door and the motor from the drivers side works just fine up and down when plugged into the other door. I have tested the wire supply for the up mode when attached to the motor and the test light shines bright when you press the switch. I tried to e-mail this before but missed 1 letter in my e-mail address. Sorry!

ANSWER: Back probe both wires going to the window motor nand operate the window switch in the UP and DOWN position. Does the test light illuminate in both UP and DOWN ?.

QUESTION: If you probe the wires, the wires do illuminate when you test them at the plug with the test light in conjunction with the correct switch position. I believe the blue wire is up and the black is down. Both are working correctly when you depress the switch.
ANSWER: Put the alligator clip of the test light on the black wire and the tip of the test light on the blue wire with the window motor disconnected at the motor and see if the test light illuminates when you press the UP and DOWN button

QUESTION: OK, Tested the two wires in a loop like you said. The test light will light up when you press the down but not the up. Thanks for your help so far!

Answer
With switch connected to wiring connector:

1. Ground the ground wire of the test light to a piece of metal door frame and backprobe the purple wire with the tip of the test light and the test light should illuminate.

2. Remove the ground wire from the door ground and attach it to the PURPLE wire in the connector and backprobe the DARK BLUE wire with the tip of the test light and the test light should illuminate.

3. attach the ground wire of the test light to the DARK GREEN wire in the connector and backprobe the DARK BLUE wire with the tip of the test light and the test light should illuminate.

If you get NO illumination on either step 2 or 3, replace the left rear window switch.

If you DO get illumination on BOTH steps 2 and 3, Let me know as we will have to test the drivers panel Left rear window switch.
