1992 Cadillac eldorado 4.9liter standard guages with digital mileage center,digital temp/msg. center and digital hvac display: the "SERVICE ENGINE" light will come on--when this happens the digits for the fuel center display,engine temp,and HVAC diplay go blank like --. and of coarse when this happens i losse all control of the HVAC controls and the heater fan is stuck on blowing luke warm air and of coarse no rear defrost. this is an intermitant problem but 90% of the time is stuck in this mode making it very difficult to defrost my windows and what not. Any ideas? Is this a MESS of problems conflicting each other or is there hopefilly just a simple module/computer box that needs replacing? PLEASE HELP!!!

When the climate control is working see if you can get any computer codes from the climate control panel.
Is there any type of single letter display on the fuel mileage display or climate control center such as -c or -d or -151 when the fault happens ?.
What has been replaced or installed in the vehicle prior to this problem ?.
I get no codes on the mileage display when the fault happens (just --) Also I just ran the codes from the hvac control center and only get IPC codes realting to loss of data from SIR,PCM,ACP which are current. and 2 history codes for IPC relating to loss od data from the suspension and a "keep alive memory" error. the codes are: I033 C,I034 C,I037 C,I039 H,and I052H.
When the ECM,SIR,and ACP selections come up it displays "NO DATA" message.
The only thing that has been changed or replaced in this car recently is the BOSE sound system. When i bought the car the Bose system was missing with just the wire harnesses remaining so i ran new power and speaker wires and installed an aftermarket cd player and speakers Not using any wires from the bose harness. This fault was not present when I bought the car with no sound system and appeared before the new units were installed months later.
Also I thought I might mention that the fault appears without the engine running(ign. in "ON" position) It happens about 5 sec. after the key is turned on. BUT...when the vehicle is "RUNNING" the fault appears and disapears in sync with the "SERVICE ENGINE" light doing the same.
Answer All these I0 codes mean that there is a problem either with the;
DERM (diagnostic Energy Reserve module)Which is part of your SIR (Supplemental inflatable restraint) system
IPC (Instrument panel cluster)
PCM Power control module)
APC = AC/Heater Programmer)
wiring fault.
