1994 Cadillac Fleetwood 5.7

Trying to get codes out of this car.  I just purchased the Haynes Techbook "Automotive Computer Codes".  According to the local Autozone folks I have an OBD1 vehicle that the codes are obtained through the AC display by pressing "OFF" and "Warm Temp" buttons for 3 seconds.  However, it never gets to giving me the codes.  Upon closer inspection it would seem that this year model gets its codes from the ALDL link.  I jumped out what I believe to be A and B terminals and still get nothing by way of flashing codes from the Check Engine Light.  Any help appreciated.  This vehicle on occasion has the Check Engine Light come on and then comes to a stop and will not crank until completely cool.  Then it runs for a few months then does it again.  Had it towed three times.  Garage can't get a hard code to happen, so no work performed.  Tired of getting towed.  Help.  Thanks.

When you see the -00 push the UP fan switch and it will go to -01 and display any codes.write down any codes.

Push the UP button again and it will go to -02 and so on all the way to -31.

Record all the ocdes and let me know what they are.

Thanks for the reply.  I did as you asked.  The display showed -00.  However the only way to get codes to show was by pushing the "out temp" button.  If that is correct my car sure has a bunch of codes.

01=124
02=110 126
04=172
05=13
08=161
13=06
16=89
17=128
18=117
19=123
20=155
21=155
22=109
23=59
24=80
25=154
26=110
28=98
29=40
30=54
31=52
34=128
35=128
36=16
37=50
38=4

the missing digits 0-38 registered 00.

The car runs fair until the "check engine" light comes on then it sputters to the side of the road and won't crank til the next day.  Then its fine for a few months.  Performance is only fair.

Answer
OK, This is going to be VERY COMPLEX to find the cause. The fault could be:

a short to ground or an open circuit in the 800 DATA LINE of which controls all the functions to the below devices.

CCM (Central Control Module)
PCM (Powertrain Control Module)
EBTCM (Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module)
SDM (Restraint Diagnostic energy reserve Module)
HVAC Heater Vent ans AC Control)
Or the OUTSIDE TEMP SENSOR.

This is going to take alot of electrical schematics to read and follow the directives that I will have to give you unless you are highly skilled in reading schematics.
