Chevrolet: head lights, proper safety procedures, chev cavalier

Question
My daughter has a 96 Chev. Cavalier and the dim lights only work on a part time basis. I think either the light switch or the dimmer switch is bad. My question is how difficult is it to change. I have never replaced a column combination switch that had an air bag in the steering wheel. What do I need to do?

Answer
Sometimes you can replace the combination switch without removing the steering wheel and air bag. Remove the plastic covers on the top and bottom of the column. There are only two screws that hold the switch in and you sould be able to see them with the covers removed.
If you cant get to both of them and you need to remove the bag and wheel, take it to someone who knows how to properly handle an air bag. You should not try it yourself if you dont know ALL of the proper safety procedures. It can be deadly. Remember this, when its in the car its an air bag, when its in your hands, ITS A BOMB!
