Ford: 97 Ford taurus, ford taurus, salvage yard

Question
I have a 97 taurus it runs well and have not had any problems with it till now. When you drive it for awhile the speedometer starts to drop down sometimes to zero . Then the transmission starts to shift to lower gears the rpm shoot up then shifts back up and down lunging the car . Sometimes it runs fine speedometer stays correct. then starts all over again could you please give me any suggestion?  Thank you very much

Answer
Roger,

I hate to tell you but you have more than speedometer trouble. Your transmission is revving up and down, which indicates that your transmission is getting ready to go, especially if you have more than 50,000 on it. I have personally replaced 20 of them myself. You will need to get your transmission rebuilt or you can go to a reputable salvage yard and pick up a good used transmission for about 7 or 8 hundred dollars. A rebuild will cost you doublt the used transmission. Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
