Ford: Ford Explorer (1995) - change air filter, mass air flow, haynes manual

Question
I need to change the air filter on my 1995 ford explorer.  How do you change it?  I can see the clamp but the hose does not come away very easily to get the air filter out.  I do not want to break anything or force it out.  Is there anything else I need to disconnect to get the filter out?  Is there anything I should look out for?  Is there a site with a picture or something?

Thanks for any help
Doyle

Answer
Doyle,

You need to disconnect the PCV hose from the air outlet tube, then disconnect the air outlet tube from the air cleaner cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Label and disconnect the vacuum lines at the rear of the cover. Remove the cover retaining screws and disengage the cover tabs from the slots and lift off the cover. Remove the filter element and wipe out the inside of the air cleaner housing with a clean cloth. If it's necessarty to remove the housing, squeeze the hot air hose and push it out of the housing. Remove the mounting screw and lift the housing out. Place the new filter element in the ho using. If the element is marked TOP, make sure that the marked side faces up. Reinstall the cover and retaining screws. Do not over tighten the screws. Reconnect the vacuum hoses, air outlet tube and electrical connector.

If you do not completely understand the instructions that I have provided, go to your local auto parts store (such as Napa, Auto Zone or Advanced Auto) and pick yourself up a Haynes manual for the make, model and year of your vehicle. It will have photos to go with the instructions. Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
