Ford: engine cuts out, electric fuel pump, pin test

My 1984 Ford Ranger, carbureted 2.8, keeps cutting out.  If I floor the accelerator or leave it idling it runs great.  When accelerating at a normal rate it will run normally for a few seconds, then act like it is out of gas.  I have changed the carburetor and fuel filter and connected a 3-7 psi electric fuel pump.  Nothing changes.  Can you tell me if there are any known problems with this engine that cause this problem?

I do have a voltage meter and there is a module on the side of the distributor with 6 wires connected.

Roger it sound like a coil breaking up or a ing. breaking down. 1984 was split year does the dist have a module on it or is it fender mounted?remove the coil wire and have some one crank it and see if the spark is yellow or blue it should be a blue.be very careful that spark bits.

The coil is mounted on the fender well.  When we checked the spark it was purple-to-blue.  Also, I forgot to mention that when I'm driving, if I keep slightly pumping the gas pedal it runs OK.  Someone told me the problem could be some relay located under the dash panel.

lets ck the tp voltage you will need a volt meter let me know if you have and  send me your e-mail add and i'll send you a pinpoint test.also i still need to know if you have a module on the side of your dist or is it fender mounted?so i can send you the rt pin test.

bleave it or not tech next to me just had the same problem with a 85 and it was the pick up  and module . so he just replace the complete dist it was cheaper then rebuilding it. if you do you must replace the module and he also removed the T/P sensor and found gas in the sensor and replace it .truck fly's now. ck these compoints out and let me know.if you remove the tp sensor and you see any moisture it needs to be changed .let me know.if you can get the dist from the junk yard .
