Ford: 1987 Mercury Sable lock rod sourcing, mercury sable, marina del rey

Trying to source the lock rod w/upper (yellow) clip from the back of the lock cylinder to the latch on the R/F door (clip broken, rod bent & broken as well). My pals @ the local Ford dealer tell me the rod (numbered "22134" on the exploded view they faxed me titled 1987 E (Taurus), 230 - Body Sides, Quarter; Handles and latch parts - front door) has been discontinued by Ford. Since a visit to Pick-A-Part is my Plan "B" I wonder if you have any sourcing ideas.

P.S. Everything else is fine with the door but since the door panel is off (the Wife is so patient) is there any preventative maintenance I should perform?

Neal the use car parts are fine to use if you are like me I like every thing new .Just for though of mine but don't worry use parts in this manner are just fine.The only thing I would do is put white lub on your window track and door lock linkages.the only thing i wouldn't use is the plastic clips if you cant get them .let me know
