Question
Transmission downshifts while driving. I slow my speed to 45 mph and it will shift and then I can pick up speed again.  Sometimes it will not shift and it makes a roaring noise.  I stop on the side of the road and turn the car off for a minute or so and start it up again and it is fine for a while. The car has about 265,000 miles on it.  I flushed the transmission once some years ago and I understand with a transmisson this old it is not good to do a flush again.  I have taken good care of the car and had my oil changed every 3 thousand miles.  I have never had engine problems.  The only problem I have had is with the air conditioner.  About one year ago I had the air conditioner replaced.  The mechanic converted it over to where it takes the new kind of freon.  It seems that is about the time I started to have the problem with the transmission.

Answer
Sharon i hate to say this but you need to take your vehicle to a shop that knows what they are doing and you need to have the trans pressure tested now if you ask them to do this and they don't know what you are talking about then you are at the wrong shop.you also have a MLP sensor which is located on the out side of your trans and you may need to have it tested first if the voltage is low or off then it is a quick fix.now if they sat you need a trans and let me know were you live state & town and i could help you out.
