Ford: brake light and anti-lock brake warning lights, ford dealership, auto zone

Question
1-26-03  Sir:  I hope you can help.  The only other expert on this page for Fords is "on vacation".  My husband did brake work on my 1990 Ford Ranger XLT a few months ago and ever since, both my brake light and my anti-lock brake warning lights on the dash have been lit up.  What could be causing this, or rather, how can he fix this? Thank you very much.  Sherri Burrows

Answer
Hello Sherri, I sure appreciate your question!  This should be a simple process.  Here is my opinion.  I believe that when he bled the brake lines of the brake system that the computer in the truck recognized a change in brake fluid pressure.  This change then activated the brake warning lights.  If your brakes are working fine, and you are not losing fluid than there shouldn't be a problem.  Now to de-activate the lights you will have to get someone with a computer to hook up to the truck's computer.  First, I know that Auto Zone does free engine light checks.  They will hook up their computer to your truck's computer and they will actually find the problem and let you know what it is.  I would go by Auto Zone and find out if they can hook up and turn your brake warning lights off.  If this does not work you will unfortunatly have to go to the nearest Ford dealership.  They will be able to hook it up and de-activate the lights for sure!  I would though try Auto Zone first because it would be much cheaper or maybe it wouldn't cost you anything!  It's a simple thing, but it takes one of those nifty computers.  Not too many people have computers like that because of the simple fact you can change so many things up on your vehicle and possibly damage your vehicle.  I really do hope this helps you out some.  Please let me know how it turns out.  I always like to make sure that everything works out for problems such as this.  Also, if you wouldn't mind please rate me and let me know how I did.  Thanks again for the question, and good luck!
