GM-GMC: Unable to maintain idle, 2000 chevy 1500, z71

Question
I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 Z71 V8.  I am only able to keep it running if I
apply the gas.  Otherwise it will die.  The engine sounds and acts normal
otherwise.  Is this an issue with the idle setting?  How can it be fixed?

Answer
Generally the idle is not adjustable.  It is possible that you have a fault with your idle air control system.  My first reaction would be to clean the throttle body thoroughly.  You can even remove it from the intake to clean it fully, there are only a couple bolts, a couple hoses and a couple sensors to remove and it will allow you to do a much better job.  Before you remove it, disconnect your battery and after you are finished reconnect it and see if your idle improves.
Hope this helps
