GM-GMC: throttle trouble, throttle plate, cadillac escalade

Question
I have a 1999 Cadillac Escalade. When i push the gas pedal down for passing power it bogs down and backfires from the engine, its acting like the timing is off but i just had it electronically timed. Would replacing the fuel filter help this out? Please help. Thank you.

Answer
There is very little that you can do to adjust the timing on that particular engine, that being said it is entirely possible that timing is causing the misfires and poor performance.  It is also possible that the fuel filter is partially plugged causing poor performance, if it has been a while since you have had a tune up, it is never a bad idea to perform some preventative maintenance.  Replace the plugs, fuel filter, wires, cap and rotor, pcv valve, inspect the air filter and replace if necessary and clean the throttle body and throttle plate.  This is all stuff that is within most peoples ability and may help your performance problem.
Hope this helps
