GM-GMC: 1978 ignition module, lifetime warranties, gm motor

Question
I have a 1978 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup that I have owned for approx. 4 years and have gone through 3 ignition modules, on the 4th and have even replaced distributor. 3 modules in new distributor.
I have experienced this with a 1975 GMC Jimmy and 1990 Gm motor home.
Engines rtange from 350 ci to 454ci. All have HEI ignition systems. I am using the paste that comes with module between module and distributor.

Answer
Jeff,

I would say that you have had more than your share of bad luck with GM HEI.  The parts you describe are known to fail, but I have never heard of so much continuing trouble for one owner.

All I can offer is that you may wish to buy replacement parts that have a lifetime warranty to take the financial sting out of the troubles you have had.  Sorenson, Borg-Warner, and A-1 Cardone all offer lifetime warranties on the module, coil, or even the entire distributor assembly.

You can buy these lifetime parts at www.partsamerica.com or its affiliated stores.
