GM-GMC: 83 Blazer Rear Brake Linings, gm factory, rear shoes

Question
Am replacing rear shoes and drums on '83 Blazer. New shoes have different length linings, old are equal, and I'm sure have been replaced, (135,000 miles). Which shoe towards front of vehicle...short or long?

BTW, nothing in GM Factory manual that I can find.

Thanks, Peter

Answer
It actually is not about short or long.

It is thickness that matters.

The thinner shoe is the primary shoe and goes towards the front of the vehicle.

The thicker shoe is the secondary shoe and goes towards the rear because this shoe is driven against the rotating drum during braking and experiences more wear.
