Honda: 88 Civic Lx with Engine Code 19, solenoid valve, code 19

Question
I have an 88 civic lx that has the check engine light on.  The code it's throwing is 19.  Honda says code 19 is the Solenoid Valve (defective circuit or unplugged / defective solenoid valve).

Two questions - How can I troubleshoot this to make sure it's the valve and not a wiring issue?  The part is over $150 and I want to make sure it's the part before I spend the $.

Second, the alternator on the car went bad around the time the code came on.  With the alternator replaced, I would like to first reset the CEL and see if the problem shows up again but I can't figure out how to reset the code.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
Just disconnect the battery to reset the engine computer a manual should have a check for that part.Usually you check the ohms across the parts wiring if it is too high or low the parts is bad also check for continuity from the solenoids plug to the ecm.I don't have a manual in front of me to tell you much more.
