Honda: cd/radio changer broken, car audio shop, cd radio

Question
I have a Honda Accord 2.0 VTEC Exec (2002 model). When I bought the car the Bose cd/radio player came with the car and work with a cd changer in the boot that holds 6 cds. However my 18 months daughter keeps pressing the button that changes from CD to Tape so many times that it has now broken and I can no longer switch over to play CD. Playing tape is fine. I have ask a quotation for a replacement and it will cost me £900 or $1673. I can not afford this. Do you know why I can no longer switch over to CD? When I click on the button I am not even getting the word 'CD' appearing on the screen. From your experience does this mean that the cd/radio player in the car is really broken ? or is it because there a loose wiring between this and the cd changer in the boot. Is there any chance that I can fix it? I am not a mechanic, I am a driver as you can understand. The mechanic said that it is possible for me to take out the front panel encompass the built-in cd/radio which are screwed in, if I want to have a proper look at the cd/radio on the dash board. Is it easy to take out the panel and more importantly how easy is it to put it back. There are a few buttons that I can see I need to be careful of. The emergency button, the cruise control button plus the air ventilator which this panel cover. Is there is nothing I can do then I just have to live without the cd and listen to the radio but there is a problem with using the radio on the motorway? It does not pick up signals that well.

Answer
Hello Michael,
I know that there are companies that fix audio equipment(a car audio shop should know about these shops).  They may charge around $200 USD though.  On the other hand, when I had an S2000, I bought a radio from a fellow owner for that same amount.  This particular radio was used only for his drive from the dealership to his home, then he shipped it to me.
Where are you located?  Are you in Australia, England...I'm trying to figure out exactly which model you have...because in Europe, the Accord is the same as the North American Acura TSX...but this is only model year 2004 and up.
go to www.superhonda.org   try to find a local owner's group, or one that is close by.  There may be an owner switching to an aftermarket radio that will part with his used one.

Good luck Michael,
Barrett.
