Mercedes: Fuse Replacement, amp fuse, blown fuses

Question
What happens if I replace a 15 amp fuse that keeps blowing in my SL500 with a 20 amp fuse?

Answer
Kevin,
Fuses are designed to protect the wiring circuits from getting hot and melting the insulation and causing a fire. If a fuse is blowing you need to make sure that the circuit is fused properly. The fuse holder should indicate the size.
Poor connections can cause heat and resistance and this can cause the fuse to blow. Cleaning ground connections or sockets where the bullet type fused go can help in this regard.
If some thing has been added to the circuit that was not part of the original design. Radio etc, this too can cause blown fuses.

The short of it is ( no pun intended) fuses should not be increased because of the potential for fire.
Good Luck
Robert
