Mercedes: Mercedes 260E, mercedes 260e, tank fuel

Question
Just purchased a 260E with 293,000 miles that had been sitting in a drive way for 3 years. Got it started ran for 10 minutes and then shut off. I was not able to start for 30 minutes. i installed new plugs, rotor distributor cap and wires. Changed oil. Car starts right up, however, it has a low idle and has cut off once or twice after stopping. It is now stalling/hesitating when I accelerate. Do you think I need to change fuel filter and pump?

Answer
Tim,
The fuel filter should definitely be changed before you try to drive the vehicle again. Continuing to sent the ad fuel through the system will only make it worse.  I would drain the tank pour in a bottle of B12 fuel treatment and refill the tank.
Fuel today has pretty nasty varnish that form in less than a year.
After you have burn through that tank of fuel. I would add a techron black bottle fuel treatment.
Take the vehicle out on an interstate or autobahn a run the crap out of it. This should help burn out any excess varnish.
Good Luck
Robert
