Mitsubishi: Wont Start, spark plug wire, radiator hose

Question
It is turning over and just sounds like it is chugging, like it might be mistimed somehow.  the timing belt looks good and feels solid.  it was replaced about 10,000 miles ago.

I have a 95 Eagle Talon and know that it is pretty much the same as the Eclipse.  It is the 4 cylinder ESI model.  THe problem that i am having is that it won't start.  My radiator hose blew, put a new one on and the then where the hose connects to the radiator blew and so i replaced the radiator.  Before i replaced the radiator, the car started and was fine for about 30 seconds.  I turned it off and it would not start again.  we went through about everything we could think of to see what happened and to see if something got wet when the hose blew.  the engine should not have been hot enough to crack anything, so i am at a loss right now and want to see if you have any suggestions before i take it to a place to pay to have someone take a look at it.

Hi Chad,

This will be very tough because there are so many reasons for no start situations. First, check all your fuses and fusable links. If those all check out then we need to determine if it is a fuel delivery problem or a spark problem. They sell a product called starting fluid that you spray into the air intake. Do this while cranking it. If it starts then it's a fuel delivery problem. If you want to check to see if there is spark, unplug a spark plug wire at the plug, insert a screw driver into metal part of the wire and hold it close to metal while cranking the engine. If you see a spark jump, then again, it is likely a fuel delivery problem. If you use the spray or the screwdriver method and it doesn't start or there is no spark, then we will work on determining why you have a no spark issue. Try one of those step and re-submit

Hi Chad,

There are only two things that make a car start or not. Spark and fuel. Is it turning over or just clicking?

Answer
Yeah, Chad, even if it the timing chain jumped a tooth it would start with the starting fluid. Airplane gas in a spray can. Run like crap, but would turn over. I just don't see how it could have jumped so far that it won't turn over. Unless, due to overheating the engine, you seized the rings and there is no compression. Pull the plugs and run a compression test. Resubmit the compression for each cylinder. They should read over 110 PSI. If you have one that is much below that, then we are bummin'. Any autoparts store will have a compression gauge for about $10. Don't give up, we'll get this. While your at your favorite autoparts store, see how much a scan tool might be. if they have a cheapy one, get it also and perform a scan, let me know what codes are present... Cheapy scan tools will only flash you the code numbers. I will tell you what they mean... If you like.
