Mitsubishi: AT/Temp Light on Dashboard, mitsubishi 3000gto, mitsubishi dealer

Question
Hello,

I own a 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GTO Automatic (Jap Import).  I have owned the car for about 7 years.  It has not been diven much.  Last time I drove it I noticed that there was an AT/Temp warning light on the dash.  Also, the car seems to be very slow to move off from standing but then its quite quick for a while and revs increase but the car does not seem to change to a higher gear.  There seems to be a great deal of heat coming from the gear shift area.

As, my car is an import Mitsubishi refuse to service the car and I am worried about handing it over to some of the mechanics that have looked at it.

I hope that you can be of help.

Kind regards

Sam

Answer
Hi Sam,

All Mitsubishis are Japanese imports. You can tell by the first number in the VIN. 1 or 5= USA, 2= Canada, 3= Mexico, 4 or J= Japan, K= Korea and many others. It would seem ridiculous for a Mitsubishi dealer to turn away work. Maybe they are not very good at that dealer with transmissions. But anyway, your check transmission lamp is lit because the computer sees a problem. If it's not a check transmission light, the check engine light might also be lit. From your description of the drivablity issue you are driving in failsafe which is 2nd and reverse only. Or the other way around, you have been driving in failsafe and caused your transmission overtemp light to come on. Either way, you need to take it and have it scanned. Cottman Transmission shops do this for free. Once you get the DTC or diagnostic trouble code we can take it to the next step. Resubmit to me the DTC and I will help you fix it without getting ripped off... Hope this helps! Happy Fourth of July!
