hi, i am getting ready to buy a 1995 mitsubishi 3000gt SL. we took it to the mechanic to get it checked out and his only concern was that it always read low oil pressure...does this mean that the engine is getting ready to go, or is it somthing else

Answer -
Hi Pete,

Low oil pressure is not a good sign in any car, obviously... But it could be something as simple as a worn out oil pump, though it could be as serious as needing a ring job or crank bearings. Personally, I would stay clear of this car because you just don't know if it's a $200 issue or $2000 issue. Usually, if it is not the oil pump diaphram then the problem is real serious and indicates the car was raced around and driven hard also the maintainance was not kept up. Good luck, hope this helps.

Follow-up: Oh Pete, it could even be a bad oil pressure sending unit. Sorry I didn't mention that first. Brain seize. You might try replacing that and checking it again. VERY Common problem. Sorry I forgot it.

haha yea ive heard thats a common problem in 3000gt's. but anyway my cousin is a mechanic that used to work on mitsubishis so we got him to take a look at it and he said the oil pressure was fine and there wasnt enything wrong with the car. i ended up just getting it. its really nice and im glad cause its hard to find a 3000gt in perfect condition all around for a good price. thanks for the help
