Oldsmobile/Buick: auto seat belts, seat belts, buick regal

Maybe you can answer this question for me.
I have been working on a friends 89 buick regal.
The battery kept running down.  Well I traced it to the auto seat belts. These are not the belts with the motorized track. these units are in the door panel, 2 in each door and they were staying energized so for now I just pulled the fuse and that cured the battery drain.
I'm sure that a relay somewhere is sticking.

Anyway my question is just how do these units operate and what are they do. The belts pull out and retract like a normal harness. But I don't want to be disabling something I shouldn't

Honestly I don't know much about motorized seatbelts . I would highly suggest you not work on them yourself . As you said for safety reasons you don't want to disable something you shouldn't . Take your car to a reasonable mechanic or dealer to have them comb it over .
