Oldsmobile/Buick: Optinal packages, buick gran sport, v8 power

Question
Dear Ray,
Will a car with optional package have more power than a standard one? For example: I have checked the www.msn.com for the features of 92 Buick Regal Gran Sport and noticed that it has 14' wheels and 170 horsepowers. Then, will a same car (92 Buick Regal Gran Sport) that has 16' alloy wheels, all powered, sunroof, leather and powered seats, luggage rack, cruise control have more power? Please help. Thank you very much.
Sy Huynh,

Answer
Well Sy,
Typically, the Buick Gran Sport was offered in three stages of options during those years. Two V6 engines were avaliable. However, the highly optioned cars were usually the more loaded cars with more features from the factory. Combine that with the "appearance package" which gave you dealer installed options to jack the price up, such as the 16 inch wheels, luggage rack, etc. Yes, the primo loaded cars usually got the big ticket items and the most horsepower with the largest v6. Though you paid for all of it. Buick lost momentum with the Gran Sport after the Grand National edition ended in 1989. Buick unsucessfully marketed the car to a 4 door and performance oriented buyers left Buick. Not to say the car was a not a decent performer, but for the same money you could have got more with the Mustang which all time sales dominated during the early nineties. More bang for the buck. The Mustang GT, Z28's were fully loaded for thousands less, and gave you good old V8 power, and 16 inch wheels to boot! Ray
