Pontiac: Interior dash lights/taillights, dash lights, pontiac grand am

I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am, 6 cylinder and I am having problems with the dashlights/taillights.  They come on sometimes but not all the time.  We have replaced the fuses and that seemed to work at first, but now they keep coming on every so often. If the dashlights don't work then the taillights don't work.  They seem to be hooked together. Do you think I might have a short somewhere?

Yes, they are hooked together. Thats why when you turn on the head lights, the dash lights come on.
If you have a short, it should blow the fuse. If the fuse isnt blowing, you probably have a bad connection in the headlight switch.
Replace the headlight switch.
