The car wants to stall and hestiates to run smoothly. Be advised that the car was driven for 2 days with the battery light on prior to alternator completly going. The memory was lost on the vehicle...Ive been told that the computer may need to be reset.. Is this true?  will it help ?  and can  you tell me how to reset the computer ?  thank you so much.....               Jane

Answer
First of all you need to make sure that the battery is fully charged. What you were told about resetting the computer is partially correct. The computer has a memory that stores your driving habits and running conditions. For example if you make alot of short trips around town in your car and I do alot of highway driving in mine, the computers will have different driving conditions stored in memory. The way that you reset it is to just drive the car like you always do, it should "relearn" itself within a few miles. If it still has a running problem after a couple of days, then you probably have another problem. But once again, make sure the battery is fully charged and that the new alternator is charging correctly. None of your electical systems will work "right" if the battery is low.
