Saab: Saab 900 92., saab 900 s, jumper wire

Question
92 saab 900 s/automatic Was running fine. This morning would not start. Not getting fuel at all. My question, is the fuel pump obvious when running? I hear nothing when turning on the ignition ( I only just bought the car and drove it home 40 miles and all was fine.) The relays and fuses all are fine as well as power to the fuel pump. Also, the car will start with starting fluid sprayed in the intake.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Maureen
Ps the car has 127,000

Answer
Maureen:
Below is a simple procedure for testing your fuel pump. Please proceed as follows:
a. Open the hood and locate the fuse box
b. Make sure the ignition is OFF
c. Remove fuses number 27 and 30
d. connect a jumper wire from the OUTBOARD (wheel side) of fuse 30 [socket]to the INBOARD (Engine side) of fuse 27 [socket]
You should then hear the fuel pump "whirring". If not, then the fuel pump is likely bad. When fuel pumps are beginning to fail, they often will not run during the normal key-start cycle, but will when the above test is done.
e. Remove the jumper, replace the fuses and try starting the car {if you heard the "whirring" sound] (having recently run, the fuel pump my then work temporarily, but it would definitely need to be replaced.)
If the pump runs only when the jumper is connected, the input wiring or pump relay is faulty.

If by "power to the fuel pump" you mean +12 V at the terminals at the fuel pump itself beneath the trunk floor, that, the fuel pump is definitely faulty.
