Saab: wont start, many different things, timing chain

Question
I have a 1999 Saab wagon- I know you deal with 1990's and earlier, but I was driving down the road, and all the sudden, the entire car turned off. I tried to start it again, and I could hear the car trying to start, but it wouldn't. Sometimes it would start for a SECOND, but then turn off again.
I got it towed to a mechanic, but I was wondering what you think it MAY be?? I've gotten many different things that it could be, but what does it sound like it could be to you??
thanks!

Kayleigh:

When there is a sudden failure as yours, the problem is most likely electrical; either the electronic ignition spark circuit or the fuel pump. Also, with some older SAABS there is a long history of timing chain failures; if yours has a timing BELT, that too could be a source of the problem.
I wish I could be more specific, but as noted in my profile, I do not have hands-on experience with your model.
