Saab: Key Wont Turn, convertable, recurrence

Question
Hi-I have a 1996 Saab convertable that wont start.  I can get the key in the ignition but it refuses to turn.  I've played with the gears, the emergency break, etc and I'm stuck.  I can't get it out of reverse but I think that is standard for the car-it usually has to be in reverse to turn off.

Answer
The problem is in the console below the key...there is a spring loaded [reverse lockout] lever whose circular spring occasionally breaks, resulting in the condition you describe.
The console must be disassembled and the spring replaced, or alternatively, if you don't mind NOT having the reverse lockout feature, removing the lever and spring completely, and thus forever avoiding a recurrence.
