Toyota: engine trouble, rotor arm, 22re

my engine (4 cly, 22RE)in my 1993 pickup recently started sputtering when it runs. at all speeds, and it is worse in first and second gear. any suggestions?

have you tried a really good tune-up?  For this issue, I'd start in this order: Injector cleaning (Seafoam Engine Treatment), spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor and rotor arm, fuel filter...

The idea is to go from the easiest fix to the hardest.  Also, keep in mind that you think of how the engine works: air, fuel, spark.  So, you check and make sure the three are given to the engine:)
