Toyota: 2000 toyota tacoma 4WD dies randomly, toyota tacoma, seafoam

Question
Hi David,
I have a 4WD 2000 toyota tacoma,  and it has been very good to me. However, it has infrequently been dying on me lately. It happened once on a freeway when I was going about 60mph, and it happened about two other times when I was going very slow or idling. This has occurred in the past month. Would that be a fuel filter issue? What is your opinion on this, and how should I go about fixing it? I'd like to have a good idea about what the problem is before I take it in to a mechanic. Thank you for your time!
Cheers,
Danielle

Answer
Danielle, have you been keeping up with the basics?  Motor oil, etc?  Well, I forgot what's the typical mileage you should put on your filter before you replace it but it's good to start from. Have you gotten any "check engine" lights or warnings?  A good thing to invest into as well is a bottle of "Seafoam" to clean your injectors and to help with any water that may have found its way into your fuel.  A proper tune-up will also help.

So, I'd go seafoam (if you can buy some, 6 bucks a bottle.  Use as directed), then fuel filter, then tune-up.  If you still have the problem, then you may want o visit a mechanic.

Hope this helps
