Volkswagen: gasey carb, electrical connection, pict

Question
I have a 1971 Super Beetle.  The engine was replaced with a new one about 9,000 miles ago. the carb has about 11,000 miles on it. After I turn of the engine I can still here the carb "gurgling" fuel and as far as I can tell it continues dripping into the carb. I know this most likely has an easy answer but the only one I can find is "overhaul the carb".  Is that the only way to solve the problem?

Answer
It could be the fuel cutoff valve stuck open.  On 30 PICT-3 carbs it's on the right and 34 PICT-3 carbs (71 models) it is screwed into the left side of the carb and has a single electrical connection.  Try cleaning or replacing it, a relatively simple procedure.
