Volkswagen: VW Beetle 1969 Front Suspension, torsion bars, torsion bar

Question
I have a replica car that is built on the VW Beetle 1969. The front suspension is of torsion bar type (two of them upper an lower). The front of the car seems to be quite low and I was thinking if I can adjust it to make it a little higher. There is a 8 mm set screw in the center on both bars. Can I do an adjustement using that? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Michael,

I'm sure we wish it was all that easy.  Each bar at the end of the 2 tubes on each side need to be removed from thier torsion bars and brought back a spline or two in order to raise it.

It is a timely project, and definately get the book in order to get an idea of how many splines you should move back in order to get the desired height.

Good Luck,

Ron
