Volkswagen: vaccume, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

My cheak engine light came on  and when I had it put on a computer I found out that I had a vaccum leak and low vaccum to my mass air then I let it go for about two weeks with out fixing it and the light went out now just about an hour ago it came back on but I can not find anything wrong.. Oh I own a 1997 jetta gls  2.0

Hi Mike,

Did you recently get fuel?  A loose gas cap will also trip the 'check engine' light.

I would still check that rubber boot by the mass air flow sensor and make sure there are no cracks in between all of the bellows,  and inspect each hose carefully.  Pay particular attention to the ones that cross over each other, as they tend to rub and cause leaks.

Next make sure your air cleaner is new.

If you checked all that, and the light goes on again,  you may want to check/replace your MAP (Manifold Absolute/Air Pressure) sensor.
