Volkswagen: 1971 Volkswagen starter, vw bug, loose wires

Question
I just purchased a 71 VW Bug, it originally cranked over when I turned the key, after cleaning the car out(removed the rear seat to vacuum)it no longer had "juice" from the key to the starter ... what could be the problem??

Answer
Hi,

Most likely, you may have knocked off a wire from the battery or loosened a terminal while vacuuming.

My suggestion would be to:

1) Look for any loose wires around the battery location, and on the opposite side (by the voltage regulator).

2) Loosen the terminals and clean them with a wire brush or the like, as well as cleaning the battery posts.

After these two steps, you should be fine.

Let me know how you make out.
