Question1971 superbeetle automatic, was previosly ok, but now won't crank (with gearshift in neutral)No headlight operation, only parking lights. Has new, fully charged battery. Fuses all ok. Have Haybes Repair Manual for reference. Using schematic on pgs 12-28 & 29.
AnswerThere is a switch under the gearshift. Sometimes the blue wire gets worn out, and needs to be replaced. That usually is the main cause of non-starting.
Also, check the switches on the transmission and make sure they are plugged in.
Finally, look at the starter and make sure that all the wires are secure, and none of them broke off.
