Volkswagen: Smell of Fuel inside car, vw cabrio, clutch cable

Question
I have a 1995 VW Cabrio, i have been smelling fuel inside the car while driving.  What could this be?

Also, how can I tell when the clutch is going out?

Answer
the fuel smell inside the car could be a breather hose off on the engine or air box. also the injection body flange may be splitting. this can be checked by gently pulling the injection unit to one side, if it moves freely, the flange may be split. you can usually tell if the clutch is on it's way out by where it is biting, if it's near the top then it's worn, if it's mid point but can slip when accelerating or changing gear then it is due for changing. also the clutch may feel heavy, if so try a new clutch cable if it has one, this can easily make the clutch feel heavy as it wears.
