Volvo: 2001 Volvo V70XC AWD, cv joints, volvo v70xc

Question
In the last week my wife's Volvo has developed a very noticeable clunk and lurch when turning, especially to the left.  It actually feels like something is binding then releasing.  The suspension looks fine, bushings all good, rod ends and ball joints look OK.  I thought it might be the CV joints but I can pretty definitively say that it is not it.  The only other thing I can think of is that a few months ago the dealer had said we had a small transmission leak (which they fixed) and that we may experience problems with the Angle Gear(?) in the future.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ken

Answer
Ken,
Now I have had axles that appear to look good but are making noise and binding, so they can fool you. You may want to replace one or both if in doubt. Bushings, tie rod ends and ball joints pretty much do not make noise, agreed. See if you can get a Volvo tech to drive the car and give his/her opinion. Noise and clunks are tough to find and driving the car is necessary.
