Volvo: is my engine seized?, volvo v70 xc, 1998 volvo v70

I have a 1998 volvo v70 xc with 156,000K miles on it.  The oil has been changed regularly but, while driving, my engine started to cough and knock, and as I pulled over there was smoke coming from the front wheel wells and oil under the car in several different places up front.  Do you think it's definitely "seized" and if so, should I invest in a re-build (I'm broke!)  Help!  thanks!

Try to turn over the engine, try the key first then see if putting a wrench to the crank bolt you can turn the motor over or not.
As for putting an engine in how much would you feel is too much to invest in the car? A used engine providing you can find one that has an exceptable amount of miles and installation would be $2500 to $3000. That would possible exceed the cars value.
