Volvo: help, shade tree mechanic, volvo 242 gt

Just got a volvo 242 gt not running. Owner said it would run like new one day next day not crank. A shade tree mechanic said it wasnt fireing and thought it was the computer. Any answers.

Control units do in fact go bad, but without knowlege of that vehicle it will be hit or miss with your diagnosis. Take the car to a shop that knows Volvo, have some testing done.
Now you said "runs like new one day nest day not crank". If the engine will not crank over that is not a control unit fault. That could be starter, cables, battery.
