Volvo: Buying a used Volvo, v70 xc, passing emissions

Question
I read lots of different things about the reliability of used Volvos.  Are their particular models and years that are better than most?  Is the AWD something to stay away from?  I'm looking at 1998-2002 Volvos....specifically a 1998 S70 5-speed with 72K miles, a 1998 V70 XC with 93K miles and a 2002 S40 with 65K miles.  How reliable are each of these cars?  Thanks.

Answer
Dave,
The S70 might be your best bet. Although some have a difficult time passing emissions. The AWD have had many driveline problems. The S40 is like an Escort or something small. Has that harsh ride and "tinny". However many people do like them. So far it has turned out ok. Whatever car you like maybe all of them have them inspected by a Volvo shop. Also see about a warranty you can purchase for major break downs.
