Volvo: 1997 850 glt wont start, fuse box, maf sensor

Question
Thank you for your help.
I did replace all parts, the cap & button were in bad shape, for as good as the car was running before my smart cleaning move.
Anyway still did not start. I checked to hear if the gas pump is running and it sounded fine from the nossle while cranking. The coil is delivering 12  volts during cranking.I did not checkto see if the wires were getting spark, the book says not to check it the old school way. Can you help me out on the safe way. I've beat myself up trying to figure what may be wrong. Could what I've done shorted something in the cpu. I'm praying not.!! Someone told me to check the maf? sensor or something to that nature, said car would not start if it wa bad. As before car turns over strong not even a hit of combustion. Any ideas, anything would help. Next move is to tow it to the shop. Last minute thought, could that the engine light came on before it died shut something down to cause it not to start. The light had flashed about 3-4 times before staying on then it quit.

 Thank You Much, Jim

Question -
I'll start by saying my car has been starting and running fine till I got cleaned the engine like I do my toyota. I sprayed down the engine let dry, it started right but was missing a little bit. Drove down the road and on the way back engine light came and it died. Now it won't start at all. I removed the distributer, all was dry. Ipulled the plug wires and 2 of the plug shafts had water up to the top of the plug, I wet vac'ed all of the shafts out and dryed all the plug wires. Also pulled wire form the coil but it was dry. I checked all the electrical connections I could find and they also were dry. The fuse box and the box were the ecu is located is dry also. All the lights and electric windows work. Cranks strong but does not sound like the engine is getting fire. Thanks jim

Answer -
Jim,
I would get new cap, rotor and wires and plugs. When the plugs are out squirt a very small amount of oil into each cylinder. Turn over the engine before replacing the plugs only about four of five revolutions.

Answer
Jim,
Take one of the old plugs and attach it to any one of the plug wires. Lay it on top of the engine and crank the engine over to see if you have spark.
Sometimes the constant cranking of the car causes the cylinders to get washed with all the gas that has been sprayed. So what you need to do is remove the plugs and squirt a little oil into each cylinder. That will bring back lost compression.
The check engine light might indicate there is a code in the system and could be one that will not allow the car to start.
