Volvo: 92, 240DL AC, thermostatic switch, position thanks

Question
Nigel, bought a 240, the AC compresor does not function when AC switch is positioned on. The light in the switch glows with switch off and vehicle running.  Want to run hot wire directly to compressor and auxilary fan bypassing the old system.  Question will i hurt anything.  Know this year 240 has no thermostatic switch and power would be appied all the time unless i move new switch to off position.

thanks for any help

Tom

Answer
i wouldn't do this except for a temporary thing, like troubleshooting etc, i don't know how much experience you have with a/c.....if you don't have experience taking it apart, if you don't own a/c equipment i would not do this...i mean i have quite a bit of knowledge of a/c and how it works and i wouldn't even play around with it. you could have a leak somewhere or a clogged orofice etc. and running the compressor anyway isn't going to help. i would be real surprised if there is not a pressure switch on your system. you don't want to be bypassing things
