Volvo: 1999 Volvo V70, 1999 volvo v70, volvo v70

Question
Jimmy,

I have a 1999 V70 which has had the "service" light on for a couple of months now. The light turns off by itself after about 5 minutes everytime. I also recently have had the "check engine" light turn on recently which doesn't turn off at all. I think I need a new CV joint but am not sure until I take it in (everytime I turn left the wheel is hard to turn and it feels like the front wheel is hitting something). I was wondering if the "check engine" or "service" lights are on because of the cv joint (if it is indeed the problem)? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Hello Andy! The service light is just a reminder that tells you it's time for service. It comes on every 7500 miles. The ck. engine light comes on when there is a problem in the emmisions system. The noise you are hearing sounds like it could be the metal steering stops hitting the control arm. They may need to be lubed. It is best to have a Volvo technician check the car out for you ASAP.
