Volvo: Volvo brakes go out when hot, brake master cylinder, brake hoses

Question
The brakes on my 1988 740 turbo quit working only when in stop and go traffic. It's like only when they get real hot the pedal just goes to the floor. A local shops wants $1000 to replace all the calipers and brake hoses. Does this sound correct or do you think they really don't know and just want to replace everything? They said the calipers on my car are no longer made and they will have to special order caliper upgrades.

Answer
Hello Rose! There may be a problem with the brake master cylinder as well. What are they saying is wrong with the calipers and hoses. The calipers are still made and are readily available. I'm not sure why they are telling you that. I would take the cae to a qualified Volvo technician for a proper diagnosis.
