Volvo: Volvo Warning Lights, wire alternator, chevy 350

Question
The track lock and abs warning lights have come on intermittently on my wife's 1996 850 Wagon (non turbo)(as does the service engine soon light) but I change oil, air filter, check fluids etc. regularly.  She says she is not experiencing any difficulties, but thought there might be a need to go to the dealer to get it check out.

I am a capable mechanic with a box full of tools and a whole lot of know how, but I am not a modern day mechanic.  My cars are simple.  Give me chevy 350 ci 350 th and one wire alternator and I will stuff it in anything from a 1934 Ford to a 1954 Chevy.  My family (wife and 2 boys) enjoy the old car hobby, but I wouldn't try to make a living building them.

Do you have any ideas about the Volvo warning lights, or am at the mercy of a garage?

Answer
Hello Roger! The ABS/TRACS light is probably caused by a faulty ABS control module. You will need a special to scan tool to read the codes just to be sure. The "service" light comes on every 5,000 to 10,000 miles to remind you that a service is due. You will need a special tool to reset the light too. I hope this info helps.
