Volvo: volvo s80 alarm system, volvo s80, 1999 volvo s80

Question
I have a 1999 Volvo S80 with a recurring, intermittent alarm problem. The alarm goes off for no apparent reason; sometimes minutes and other times hours, after the doors are locked. I have returned the car to the dealer three times, and they have been unable to identify the problem. It does not happen every time the door is locked, and no fault is logged when it does occur. The dealer lowered the sensitivity of the interior alarm and has "cleaned" the electronic contacts (at least that's what they said they did) but nothing helped.

Any suggestions before I insist they replace the alarm system (which is still under an extended warrenty)?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Claudia! The only think I can think of is a bad door or trunk lock. There are many things that can cause that problem. Locks, sensors, network problems, etc. Try going to another dealer or an independent Volvo specialist. It seems like the dealer is not fault tracing it properly. Also, have them check the remote control. There have been known to have problems. It may actually be setting off the alarm! I hope this info helps you. I'll be here if you need me!
