4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 96 Isuzu Tooper Bottoms out, suspension problems, coil springs

Question
In an answer to another question years ago to a person with the same problem you indicated that the coil springs could wear out, but did not suggest replacing them.  In costa rica I am banging like crazy and need a remedy--will replacing the coil springs work and what about using the air lifts--I just replaced the shocks and it helped a little, but not much.  Ideas?

Answer
Burt Wiand,

If your springs are bad, it would be a good idea to replace them.  Other possibilities would be to check out your bump stops as they may be worn out, or even broken off and missing.  All springs can bottom out at times and the rubber bump stops are there to cushion this and so that you don't really feel the bump.

You can get air bags/lifts or overload shocks (usually have a coil spring mounted around the shock) which can help greatly when you have suspension problems.  Another option, is to get a small (1 1/2" - 2") lift kit.

These are just a few suggestions that may help you.
