Jeep: grinding inside front left wheel well, jeep grand cherokee, brake pads and rotors

Question
I have a 94 jeep grand cherokee. I recently started hearing a grinding noise from the front. Upon examination, I noticed 2 rings had been ground into the inside of the left wheel well, about 4 inches apart. It doesn't grind all the time. Mostly, when turning and then for a few seconds afterwards. I was wondering if maybe the suspension was off or maybe the pitman arm out of postion and causing it to happen. I replaced the brake pads and rotors on the front in November of last year. The the bolt holes in the calpier where stripped out on the left side in the process. I have been in a minor accident in which the left side was hit but that happened last summer. Please advise.

Answer
Matt, where are you seeing the 2 rings exactly?  Is it 4wd or 2wd.  Are you sure the noise is related to the rings you are seeing? Oversized or stock sized tires? Have a friend turn the wheel back and forth and make sure the tires aren't scrubbing the wheel well.  It almost sounds like axle joints going bad, tire hitting the inside of the wheel well, maybe a brake backing plate is scrubbing the brake rotor, possibly a bad wheel bearing.  Let me know!
